Springs and gorges …… just gorgeous

The next day we went on to Katherine and after we explored the town, we settled in at the Big4 tourist park which was great. The pool was welcome in the 34deg weather and the bistro served up some barramundi fillets with live entertainment to boot.

Mataranka has a feel of a giant oasis about it with its natural springs and the roper river they feed. Bitter springs was the highlight with it’s 34 degree natural spring, winding through fantastic forest for 900 meters. All that is required is to get in the water and let the current sweep you away through paradise.

Other attractions of the Elseys National Park is the roper river and the barramundi feeding.

We stayed at the Mataranka tourist park, hoping the termites wouldn’t eat our caravan from under us.

In the morning we went up to the Nitmiluk national park and on a cruise through 3 of the famous Katherine Gorges.

After cruising through the ancient gorges there was some time to cool down in a great natural spa and Frank said after that he felt “on top of the world”
