The new "Sir Countalot" line counter is finally here
We are proud to have this addition to our reel spooling products and we think it compliments the range very well, especially for heavy drag spooling applications. Please check out the video on how it works and a couple of mounting options:
There is no reason to import Avet reels anymore
Customers are often overwhelmed with the Avet range so we broke it down for you at a glance
Reel Sizes: Avet reels come in the following sizes: SX with a 60mm frame, MX with a 70mm frame, LX and JX with a 76mm frame, HX with a 86mm frame and the game reels come in a size 30, 50, 80 and the T-RX has a 130 as well
Spool options: You can choose between spool width and the SX, MX and LX series come in narrow spools or wide spools.
In the HX series there are 3 spool widths to choose from. J denotes the narrow spools (jigging). In the larger EX series there is narrow and wide and the narrow are also topless frames. Also the EXW is a topless frame although it's a wide spool
Mag Cast Control: This is a great option for casting. The magnetic cast control is adjustable with a dial, depending on conditions such as a head wind etc. and these reels are some of the finest casting lever drag reels available, making birds nests a thing of the past. Mag cast is available from SX through to HX models (except HXW).
Gearing: Avet reels have fantastic gearing options and whilst the single speed come with a medium or high speed option, there is also a 2 speed model available. Some HX and EX models also have a 3 speed gear box for clearing lines quickly for applications such as fishing under a kite. The anti reverse is a bullet proof anti reverse dog system.
Drag: Together with the bullet proof design, the drag is what Avet reels are famous for. They are either large single drag discs or in the Raptor series they have twin drags. The EX game reels also have twin drags. The T-RX series has quad drag and is the most powerful reel on the planet. This makes it possible to fish smaller reels with braid backing for bigger fish.
Left Hand Reels: Every reel in the range is available in a true left hand version. This is not a conversion but a true left hand build. Colours however are limited to silver at no extra cost and selected colours at a surcharge. The right hand also has the option of camo blue, camo and the stunning hand painted dorado colour at a surcharge.
Colours: The colour range of Avet is awesome, please check out this clip for options: CLICK HERE
Goshie Custom White Walker Mack Baits
A true masterpiece
Every anglers needs are different when it comes to a gaff for landing the fish of a lifetime. So we created the new Ultimate Custom gaff. You can order them in 10 cm increments to suit your needs, from kayak fisho's to game fisho's and land based game anglers.
Already tried and proven on world class fish our standard Ultimate gaff wasn't easy to improve on but we used a new pole that's made from t5 aluminium which is a slightly higher temper and about 10% stronger. The hook remains the same but we put a lot of work into the CNC machined teak hardwood handle, making sure it doesn't splinter and it's not more slippery but longer lasting than our standard eva grips. And wow, they sure look great too.
And we put them through some tough testing
And best of all, pricing for such a high quality gaff is fantastic as we make the whole gaff ourselves.
Please check out our gaffs at Busted Fishing
If you are serious about having the best braid to mono connection, you should check out the Beiter Winder Profi tool, Tasline hollow or Jerry Brown hollow and Black Pete splicing needles, all available now at Busted Fishing. And as always, you can buy the hollow "by the meter" with free shipping, saving you a lot of money.
At Busted Fishing, we even go a step further and we have CNC machined some aluminium spools, which we include free with our Beiter Winder Profi tools.
We also stock Black Pete splicing needles in sets and in individual needles.
So even if you are a Jerry like myself and have never done a splice, or if you are more advanced, we have the gear to do the best job possible.
Jon Bare is an icon among land based angler with this amazing Kingfish off the rocks and in his own words, this is how that one went down:
"50lb test, run me round like a dog on a chain over some hectic terrain for nearly an hour. Been smashed by couple of other fish that have stripped off several hundred yards of line at about 12kg of drag with no answer, didn't even get a wind in. Now I fish 80lb test"
For about 12 months now he has been using Tasline Elite as his braid of choice for his lighter work and we are stoked to have Jon use this line. This week he sent us in a pic with a nice Kingfish he caught on spin with 20lb Tasline Elite.
Jon is still persuing that monster Kingfish on 80lb mono and we hope one day he will blow us away with a King even bigger than the mega beast he already caught. All the best on the pursuit from the Busted Fishing team
Slide Baiting is fast gaining popularity as more quality fish like the above Kingfish are caught on slides. The benefits are obvious, a bigger bait can be deployed much further into deeper water if necessary.
At Busted Fishing we recognize anglers equipment, terrain, target fish and line class will differ so we provide a range of slides for you to choose.
The weighted and unweighted slides from Max Tackle are our best value slides and are much smaller at approx 8cm in length, however they can be fished up to 50lb line class, making them very versatile. They lend themselves for sliding with slightly smaller baits for species like Mulloway, Snapper, Kingfish and smaller Sharks.
Our larger slides are from Tackle International and from Sliders and are very similar in size and construction. It's personal preference here which brand you prefer but they lend themselfves to sliding larger baits also, due to larger profile providing more "kink" for the non return action and also the weight of the sinker is much heavier on the weighted version.
Ok, so now you have seen our slides, you may wonder how the hell do i make them work.
Slide baiting has been very successful in South Africa for many years and there are some great articles written, like this one by Reefman. Please don't feel overwhelmed reading it, you can take as much or as little out of it as you like and learn more as you have a go yourself:
Another good way to check out what sliding is all about if you haven't seen it before is this clip
As you might have seen by now, an important part of slide baiting is the grip sinker. The sinkers we sell at Busted Fishing are made in New Zealand, specifically for this task and the wires provide the most secure grip of any sinkers we have seen. Also the boom is of the long type to stop the sinker from toppling over easily before it even has a chance to take hold. And they are great value too.
So if you would like to give this exciting way of fishing a go, check out our website to find our slides, grip sinkers and Anyfish Anywhere rods. And don't be surprised if the next fish you land is bigger than your brag mat :)
New in 2017 are the Avet G2 reels (generation 2) and for the price they have some great features compared to the standard series:
The new HXJ MC 3-speeds are here! (leaving assembly room in March)
These things are going to be the new WAHOO SLAYERS! The fast retrieve in high gear is perfect for smokin wahoo bombs through the water, as well as the speed for deep jigging, with powerful medium and low gears to tame any beast after the hook set! The narrow spool is the most efficient caster of the HX series (lighter spool, less inertia to overcome to get it spinning during a cast), and the narrow width almost eliminates the worry of line stacking and line leveling on the retrieve. This reel also brings the handle knob closer to the center-line of the rod, significantly reducing cranking wobble while fighting big fish.
300yds 80lb. braid
High: 5.4:1 / 119cm per crank
Med: 2.4:1 / 53cm per crank
Low: 1.3:1 / 28cm per crank
Drag: 40lbs. strike / 50lbs. full
The sport of land based game is constantly evolving with new lures dominating the scene and rods being developed to suit. The Scythe Pelagic Slayer fits the bill perfectly when a rod lacks a little low down grunt to get fish past the sharks quicker or turn heads of stubborn fish.
In recent years there is a push for longer 9-11ft rods and the 9 foot Scythe is a great length for landbased spinning.
Developed by renowned landbased angler Tim Lee with the assistance of the countries best spinmen, Scythe rods are the weapon of choice for serious pelagic trophy hunters.
Australia’s top anglers are recognising the real value of a Scythe rod. Serious angler’s in WA such as landbased spinning guru Justin (Podge) Anthony are raving about their cast ability being far superior to other rods on the market and the ease of which the rod dominates anything that dares to get connected at the other end.
Being such a versatile rod, he even uses the rod to bully demersals out of their homes and then proceeds to use the rod as a winch, with the rods 12kg deadlift capacity eliminating the need for a gaff! He’s amazed at the power given how light the rod is!
The popularity of the PSF Scythe 902HD is also quickly spreading around the globe and their suitability for the worlds toughest landbased opponents is gathering a justified recognition within the landbased sportfishing fraternity. From knocking over the hard fighting Yellowtail Kingfish off NewZealands northern rocks, to throwing poppers along the deep drop off’s and coral atolls in West Saudi’s Red Sea targeting massive GT’s and Spanish mackerel. These weapons are dominating where others fail.
With a no non-sense construction Toray Blank Heavy duty rod grips Fuji reel seat The quality of PSF Scythe rods should come with a price tag that far exceeds the actual retail price. But Tim’s vision is to make high end rods that are affordable for every serious angler. He believes high end shouldn’t come with a ridiculous mark-up and has developed these rods simply for the pleasure of affording every Aussie spinman a top quality pelagic weapon.
Specs are truly impressive for a rod of this price point and the finish is excellent
Without a doubt, one of the best knots for connecting braid to mono is the FG knot and we believe the way Le Vi Hua shows it in this video is one of the best ways to tie it. An important aspect is the tensioning of the knot . After using the Line tensioners from MB Custom Lures myself on a recent 3 week trip, i wouldn't be without them and especially since i'm always looking for compact and lightweight gear.
Check out Le Vi Hua from MB Custom tying the FG and using the Line Tensioners at the 3:10 minute mark:
We now stock these handy tools in the Busted Fishing store, so make sure to grab a pair to tie a perfect FG knot.
Custom spooling braid by the meter has been very popular and we are pleased that we can give our customers the option of getting the same great service with Jerry Brown braid.
You simply order from our website how many meters you want and we spool that for you on our state of the art spooling machine, custom label it and send it the next business day.
It's as simple as logging into the website www.bustedfishing.com and typing in the Qty Box how many meters you want to buy. And shipping is free too !!
