The new "Sir Countalot" is alive
There is not much i enjoy as much as designing a new product and this one was particularly cool as there appeared to be a real need for a heavy duty line counter that will not break under heavy drag reel spooling.
Some guys like to know how much line goes on their reels and how much is left on the spools for next time. And some of our customers even mark their lines say every 100m for deep dropping etc.
But rather than ramble on, i made 2 videos. The first shows how it came to life and the second shows how it works.
How it came to life:
How it works:
Customers sometimes ask us to explain the difference between the old school 30 size game reel Avet EXW30 and the new breed HXW Raptor.
Now, when i say "old school EXW30" that's not really the case either because Avet has whacked a twin drag system into this 30 size reel, making it a 30 with the capabilities of a 50 size. Except for the line capacity, so braid backing is a must. I have spooled mine with 750m of Tasline 80lb hollow and topshotted with 180m of 24kg mono, giving me a total of 930m, making this a very capable 24kg reel in every sense and a pleasure to fish at only 1389 grams.
But there's another Avet that is a very unique animal, the twin drag HXW Raptor, featuring even more drag of up to 50lb and a very light 907 grams.
So here is how they stack up next to each other:
So whilst the EXW30 is a more traditionally, heavier built trolling reel with some more line line capacity, the HXW Raptor actually packs more punch in a much lighter package and if backed with braid it is a serious contender for serious fish like this 308lb Yellowfin Tuna, which was caught on the narrower HX Raptor.
So there's some food for thought.
In recent months we noticed an ever increasing request from young anglers and sometimes even their parents for sponsorships. As much as we like to help where we can, there must be a limit and also there must be a value to a business of some sort.
Just because the youngsters start a Facebook page and manage 1000 likes on it, doesn't mean that's a value to a business.
In the past 3 years we have been sponsoring a few anglers and running promos and in the 2017/18 financial year we spent over 10k which is huge for a very small operator like ourselves. After all, we still only do this part time.
And over those 3 years we have approached anglers who we thought could first of all promote our products well but also give us much needed feedback. We have been very selective with this as you can imagine.
Ed Nicholas from No Boundaries Oman has been running Tasline braid for about 2 years and his main concern with a lot of braids was fraying, especially on the casting finger. His feedback was great. Ed was also one of the first anglers to really get our Bee's Knees Reel Spooler out there as he sees first hand what can happen when reels are not spooled up tight enough. Ed is a fair dinkum guy and doesn't push products for the sake of doing so.
Adam Charles Epifanes or "Epi" as we all know him has been instrumental to making some changes to our Ultimate LBG gaff which you can see in the background. We are also working together on some new projects.
Adam Epi Epifanes Fishing 4 Life
Aron and Chris Dixon have been with us now for about 3 years and are running a lot of our gear and they run it hard. The Dixon brothers have 3 different gaffs and are currently testing the new Ultimate. The guys also consistently point out how abrasion resistant Tasline can be.

As of a few months ago we also been working together with young Flynn Cypher from Christmas Island who fishes almost daily after school. His feedback was fantastic already
So please don't be disappointed if you are looking for sponsorship and get turned down. It's not always as easy for a business as to throw a few free products in the hope you become a fishing rockstar. And first and foremost we will look after our guys that have already helped us of course.
In the meantime, shoot us an email and we will keep it on file, you never know what happens, however at the time of writing our 2017/18 budget is filled.
And most importantly, don't forget to enjoy yourself, it's not all about a gopro on your head and a facebook post. Connect more with nature and less with a USB port.
We have a few more "end of bulk spool" specials up for grabs. These spools are usually below 300 meters and we can't sell them as retail spools so we offer them at 20-50% discount. They are perfect for baitcasters etc and they usually don't last long, so be quick. At the time of writing this we have:
30lb: 160m, 170m, 290m
40lb: 155m, 185m, 270m
50lb: 110m x 2, 180m, 200m
60lb: 110m, 160m x 2, 230m
80lb: 190m, 210m x 2, 230m, 240m,250m, 265m,
100lb: 160m, 190m, 220m
Some of our customers have requested for us to get some Flexfit caps made and i'm happy to get the first lot in today. Ranging from a Youth size for kids to the large melon size for big heads. And they are only $29.95 !!
Thanks again for everyone's support and although it's a slow process, we have been adding a few new products on our website. Yesterday we added the Momoi IGFA High Catch mono lines in bulk spools, which come in 3300 - 6600 yard spools to the 1000 meter spools we added a couple of weeks ago. Also the Neo Fluro leaders are now all in stock, along with the premium fluro, the Extra Hard and Marlin Ultra Hard leaders.
Another new product that came in yesterday is the new GT ice Cream lures in 1.5oz and 2oz in the new chrome finish.
We also have been working behind the scenes on some new Busted Fishing products. First will be an upgrade to the "Sir Countalot" which unfortunately had some teething problems and after that there will be some more reel spooling upgrades. So stay tuned and please pop in again sometime soon
We are stoked to see the guys in the USA are really loving the Bee's Knees Reel Spoolers and after a few days after the last order we are already getting another box underway to Jayjigs Custom Rod And Tackle in Massachusetts.
Jason distributes and retails our whole range of spoolers, line strippers / reversers and mounting accessories in the USA.
Here is a short video of how the spooler (or line winder as you guys call them) works:
Ever wondered how long a carbontex drag washer will last?
Michael Triantopoulos from Geralton Sports Center was one of the first people to buy a Bee's Knees Reel Spooler and he converted the leg to make it fit the tackle shop's line winding machine and off they went.
Almost 4 years later, they literally spooled well over 1000 reels and over 2 millon meters of line with the same spooler. And it's still going strong.
So what makes the Bee's Knees Reel Spooler so successful?
At the heart is a single, oversized carbontex drag washer of the highest quality, impregnated with Cal's drag grease. This runs on a stainless steel drag disc with a mirror finish.
So how long will this Reel Spooler last? We simply don't know yet as all of our units are still going strong and maybe the one at Geralton Sports Center will do another 2 million meters of line.

We would like to apologize to all our customers for the current shortage of Tasline Elite braid. The shortage was caused by the IGFA rule changes allowing hollow braid to be used for records and hollow sales went through the roof, leaving a shortage of hollow lines. During the Christmas shutdown and after Christmas the sales of solid went through the roof as well and we had some huge wholesale orders and all of a sudden we are caught with our pants down and out of stock.
We expect this shortage to continue during February and possibly well into March and are sorry this may cause you to miss out on your favourite lines. Tasline is doing it's best with production and 2 more machines are coming on line soon as well so we expect better stock levels soon. And a big thanks too for the patience and to all our customers who sent in some pics.

I just had a fantastic message from Tris Mclean from King Island, who was stoked with some of the gear he bought from us but i thought some of you guys might find it interesting as well as it's not that often you see Kingfish off the beach. So with Tris's approval i share a couple of pics and his message which wrote:
The rod Tris uses is a 11ft Assassin Shore Game, the Assassin GT Ice Cream lures, Tasline Elite braid and of course he spools his reels with the Busted Bee's Knees Spooler and accessories.
We are taking a break and won't be able to ship between those dates. Our store will remain open however and you can browse and place orders, but we won't be able to ship them until the 15th of January. Our last day we will ship in 2017 is the 18th of December.
Kerry and myself would also like to take this opportunity to say thanks to all our customers who bought some of our gear, just had a browse, liked our facebook page or even left a review. It's very humbling and very much appreciated. Wish you all a Merry Christmas and fishy new Year.

There is some great news from Gemini, the new improved Splash Down Clip now hold bigger hooks to a 6/0
The Splash Down sinkers have been popular since 2009 and now the Splash Down clip is available as an add on clip as well to your own favourite sinkers. This is particularly useful when you want to use sinkers with a long boom.
This is a completely new system that allows anglers to not only clip, but lock their baited hook directly behind the sinker until impact with water.
The Splash Down is excellent for off the ground casting. it locks the baited hook directly behind the sinker, vastly improving bait presentation and eradicating those frustrating moments when your hook bait becomes unclipped mid-cast
Finally they are back !!
We were pretty sad when we couldn't get stock from our previous supplier anymore as these slides were by far our most popular one's so we are stoked to finally have them back in stock. Made in South Africa and used by the slide bait guru's, the strength and quality of these slides is awesome. Plus the price is great as well. They come in weights of 1/2oz. and 3/4oz and have the soldered eyes and rings which we like. They also feature the bead and power swivel, making these slides perfect for targeting the biggest fish out there
The new "Sir Countalot" line counter is finally here
We are proud to have this addition to our reel spooling products and we think it compliments the range very well, especially for heavy drag spooling applications. Please check out the video on how it works and a couple of mounting options:
There is no reason to import Avet reels anymore
Customers are often overwhelmed with the Avet range so we broke it down for you at a glance
Reel Sizes: Avet reels come in the following sizes: SX with a 60mm frame, MX with a 70mm frame, LX and JX with a 76mm frame, HX with a 86mm frame and the game reels come in a size 30, 50, 80 and the T-RX has a 130 as well
Spool options: You can choose between spool width and the SX, MX and LX series come in narrow spools or wide spools.
In the HX series there are 3 spool widths to choose from. J denotes the narrow spools (jigging). In the larger EX series there is narrow and wide and the narrow are also topless frames. Also the EXW is a topless frame although it's a wide spool
Mag Cast Control: This is a great option for casting. The magnetic cast control is adjustable with a dial, depending on conditions such as a head wind etc. and these reels are some of the finest casting lever drag reels available, making birds nests a thing of the past. Mag cast is available from SX through to HX models (except HXW).
Gearing: Avet reels have fantastic gearing options and whilst the single speed come with a medium or high speed option, there is also a 2 speed model available. Some HX and EX models also have a 3 speed gear box for clearing lines quickly for applications such as fishing under a kite. The anti reverse is a bullet proof anti reverse dog system.
Drag: Together with the bullet proof design, the drag is what Avet reels are famous for. They are either large single drag discs or in the Raptor series they have twin drags. The EX game reels also have twin drags. The T-RX series has quad drag and is the most powerful reel on the planet. This makes it possible to fish smaller reels with braid backing for bigger fish.
Left Hand Reels: Every reel in the range is available in a true left hand version. This is not a conversion but a true left hand build. Colours however are limited to silver at no extra cost and selected colours at a surcharge. The right hand also has the option of camo blue, camo and the stunning hand painted dorado colour at a surcharge.
Colours: The colour range of Avet is awesome, please check out this clip for options: CLICK HERE
Goshie Custom White Walker Mack Baits
A true masterpiece
Every anglers needs are different when it comes to a gaff for landing the fish of a lifetime. So we created the new Ultimate Custom gaff. You can order them in 10 cm increments to suit your needs, from kayak fisho's to game fisho's and land based game anglers.
Already tried and proven on world class fish our standard Ultimate gaff wasn't easy to improve on but we used a new pole that's made from t5 aluminium which is a slightly higher temper and about 10% stronger. The hook remains the same but we put a lot of work into the CNC machined teak hardwood handle, making sure it doesn't splinter and it's not more slippery but longer lasting than our standard eva grips. And wow, they sure look great too.
And we put them through some tough testing
And best of all, pricing for such a high quality gaff is fantastic as we make the whole gaff ourselves.
Please check out our gaffs at Busted Fishing
If you are serious about having the best braid to mono connection, you should check out the Beiter Winder Profi tool, Tasline hollow or Jerry Brown hollow and Black Pete splicing needles, all available now at Busted Fishing. And as always, you can buy the hollow "by the meter" with free shipping, saving you a lot of money.
At Busted Fishing, we even go a step further and we have CNC machined some aluminium spools, which we include free with our Beiter Winder Profi tools.
We also stock Black Pete splicing needles in sets and in individual needles.
So even if you are a Jerry like myself and have never done a splice, or if you are more advanced, we have the gear to do the best job possible.
Jon Bare is an icon among land based angler with this amazing Kingfish off the rocks and in his own words, this is how that one went down:
"50lb test, run me round like a dog on a chain over some hectic terrain for nearly an hour. Been smashed by couple of other fish that have stripped off several hundred yards of line at about 12kg of drag with no answer, didn't even get a wind in. Now I fish 80lb test"
For about 12 months now he has been using Tasline Elite as his braid of choice for his lighter work and we are stoked to have Jon use this line. This week he sent us in a pic with a nice Kingfish he caught on spin with 20lb Tasline Elite.
Jon is still persuing that monster Kingfish on 80lb mono and we hope one day he will blow us away with a King even bigger than the mega beast he already caught. All the best on the pursuit from the Busted Fishing team
